Installing the Slidebank Slack integration

Receive file notifications in a Slack channel

Updated over 5 years ago

You can opt to send Slidebank notifications to a Slack channel:

  • When a new file is uploaded to your Slidebank site

  • When a new slide selection is saved in Slidebank

  • When Slidebank publishes news updates

Whilst you can send notifications to a range of Slack channels, you cannot turn individual users' notifications on and off: the notifications you receive in Slack will be for all activity across the Slidebank platform, regardless of user.

To install the Slack integration, follow these steps:

1. Create a new Slack App.

To do this, go to https://api.slack.com/apps

2. Choose a name for the app, and add it to your workspace.

You may want to call it 'Slidebank Notifications' or similar.

3. Add the 'Incoming Webhook' Feature

Activate the incoming webhooks feature:

4. Add a new Webhook to your Workspace

5. Choose the channel you want to send notifications to

You may want to set up a new channel in Slack first:

Choose the channel you want to send notifications to:

6. Copy the Webhook URL

7. In Slidebank, open the Slack integration

Go to Setup > Integrations > Slack

8. Enter the URL

  • Copy the first half of the URL into 'URL to Slack Messaging Service' up to and including the word 'services', i.e. hooks.slack.com/services

  • Copy the second part of the URL into a new Bot Access Token

9. Select the notifications you want to receive in your Slack channel

Please note, notifications generated by activity from all users will be posted in the channel

10. Grant Slidebank permission to send this data to Slack

11. Test your channel

That should be all you need to send notifications to Slack. To test your integration, try uploading a file to the shared library, or save a new slide selection (depending on your notification choices).
