Why can't I see folders in Slidebank?

You know folders exist but you can't see them

Updated over 6 years ago

If you know that a folder has been created but it's not showing up in your Content Library, there may be one of several things going on:

  1. The folder may be empty (and you may have ย 'view empty folders' switched off)

  2. You may not have access to any content in the folder

  3. The folder may belong to a Department that you don't have access to

Empty Folders

Slidebank gives you the option to view or hide empty folders in your Library. This is a personal preference that you can switch on or off.

To change settings, click on your user name in the top right corner.

Now select 'My Preferences'.

Here, you can toggle 'Show Empty Folders' on or off depending on your preference.

Please note, the default setting is to have empty folders hidden, to stop you hitting dead ends when browsing your library.

Access to Content

The folder in question may not be empty, but if it contains files you've not been given access to, it will count as an 'empty' folder for you. As such, it will be shown/hidden according to your settings above.ย

As soon as you've been given access to at least one file in the folder, it will show up in your Library as normal.

This may explain why a folder might look empty or be hidden from you, but not for a colleague.ย

The same rule applies to Departments: in the Content Library, top-level Departments will only show up if you have access to at least one file that lives in there.

Read more about access to content here.

Restricted Departments

It may be that your Slidebank site has some strict settings that isolate Departments from one another, and inhibit cross-Departmental sharing. If this is the case, your colleagues in other Departments may have access to folders and files that you do not see.

If you suspect this is the case, please speak to your Slidebank Administrator for further explanation.
